Given the history of the Information Technology industry, I’m sure it is unsurprising for you when I say that the majority of people I have worked with have been male.

However… when I look back with a slightly more detailed focus:

  • My computer science teacher at high school…. a woman
  • The person that lectured my 3rd year college unit on ADA (which made learning PL/SQL decades a later a doddle) … a woman
  • My first mentor in the workplace during my COBOL programming days … a woman
  • First tutor at Oracle Education on database fundamentals … a woman
  • My Oracle Forms mentor when client-server became the “next big thing” … a woman
  • That person (that we all have who sits outside your direct organizational hierarchy) that you’ll occasionally seek guidance from … a woman

And of course, the person that for just about all of my formative years (and beyond) was always the smartest person in the room … a woman (thanks Mum!)

So on International Women’s Day, this blog post could have been just two words…

Thank you
