In years gone by, I’ve arrived in OpenWorld/CloudWorld from Australia on the evening before the event starts, and thus been a total zombie for the first day. This year, due to some “excellent planning” on my part (and not at all due to my misreading the event start date! 😂) I will be arriving one day earlier (so hit me up on Twitter if you want to grab a coffee).
This also means I can plan on catching a full day of awesome content on the first day. Here’s a few keynotes and database sessions that should be on your agenda! I’ve put a link under each one so you can head over to the CloudWorld to register and pre-book your seat, or go straight to my sessions here
(Outside of these times I’ll be cruising around the ACE lounge, the demo grounds, and the various theatre sessions in the exhibition hall. Please come say Hi and have a chat)
8:30am
Grab a strong coffee and kickstart your brain with some early morning SQL tuning

or, if you’re already up to speed with SQL tuning, then with 19c being a long term support release, and 23c also being the next long term support release, many of you will have an upgrade coming up, so check out this session to make sure you’re not going to make any mistakes.

Then ease into the day day with tens of thousands of others😄 by jumping into Safra Catz’s keynote

11:30am
Many database professionals have already been tinkering with our Oracle Database 23c Developers Release. This session brings us into the next phase – accessing those new features in the cloud.

or this one is one I’ve had on my radar because I want to become better with my Python skills. Generally the spots in the Hands On Labs are (quite rightly) reserved for customers and attendees, so keep your voice down if you see me sneaking in to the back on all fours…ssshhhhh 🤣

Whilst there are hundreds of new features in 23c, this is perhaps best described as “the big one”. You should check out JSON Duality views – they are a game changer for developers.

I thought it was really nice of the CloudWorld organizers to put this extra highlighting around my session. What a lovely gesture 😂. Jokes aside, I’d love to see you in this session – lets see if we can pack the room to the ceiling!

This is a short 20min session, but I’m a big fan of Liana’s posts and videos, so I’ll be keen to check out this JavaScript community theatre session

Of course, then its prime time, and Larry Ellison will be taking centre stage for the annual keynote.

5:00pm
And before you start planning which pub you’re going to hopefully come say “Hi” at, check out Andy Mendelsohn’s keynote to take us through to the end of Day 1 at CloudWorld
